The Gypsies had come to town, the news was greeted with both happiness and misery from the towns people. Happiness because with the gypsies came colourful costumes and fun and exotic things they could never get anywhere else. The misery came because if the gypsies were there for more than a week the town’s people would start blaming their problems on them, even if they hadn’t done anything wrong. The first day the gypsies arrived the captain of the guard Jun Matsumoto went to introduce himself, he had only been captain for a few weeks and his predecessor had always been on friendly terms with the gypsies and he wanted to be the same.
Going to the centre of town he saw a large crowd had already gathered around the pretty painted caravans and the guard pushed his way to the front almost gasped went he saw the reason for their interest. A raven haired boy was in front of a yellow and blue caravan, juggling. The juggling was impressive but the boy was even more so, Jun knew he had never seen anyone so beautiful. He had to be only 16 at most, with a bright smile and teasing dark brown eyes set in a creamy white face. The guard watched with complete festination as the dark eyed gypsy boy moved, his movements were quick and energetic designed to please the eye.
They did please the watching guard and he felt that maybe the movements were a little too pleasing for him and when the gypsy boy looked up and into his eyes, an amazing smile spreading on his face. The guard captain turned away not wanting to see the smile or the movements remembering the painful swiping of the cane over his back and buttocks. He looked around looking for the leader of the camp of gypsies he saw him in the furthest blue caravan his tanned sleepy looking face smiling gently as he watched the juggling boy. Jun forced himself to keep his eyes away and went to the leader, Satoshi Ohno and bowed his head politely
“Sir, I am Jun Matsumoto captain of the city guard”
“I see, my old friend has retired then?” The gypsy leader asked and Jun shook his head unable to meet the old man’s face as he answered
“I’m sorry, he passed away a month ago” when Ohno let out a sad sigh Jun found it in himself to look at him and he looked into the old troubled face.
“I see, thank-you for telling me” the old man muttered “He was a good man”
“He spoke fondly of you too sir” the guard captain told him and there was another smile,
“I see, so you are the new captain?”
“Yes, sir” Jun nodded with more force than he needed but he had grown used to defending the position that he had been given. Most of the townsfolk were very vocal that a ‘nameless nobody’ had been given the position. “I must ask, how long do you intend to be in town?”
“As of yet I am not sure…Forgive me captain, I am a very old man” The gypsy leader said softly “My grandson is the new leader and he is making the decisions…” For some reason Jun looked back at the boy that had been juggling. He saw that he had stopped now and was watching him with an amused expression on his face, it made Jun’s heart uncomfortable and he turned away again quickly “Satoshi!” The old man called and another younger man with an almost identical expression to the old man sitting in front of him. “This is my grandson Satoshi Ohno, Satoshi this is the captain of the city guard”
“Nice to meet you” The younger Satoshi said and Jun smiled glad it wasn’t the dark eyed gypsy. He spoke to the Ohno’s for a while and found out they would only be staying for around 6 days he was about to come away when he felt a presence next to him and his heart leapt when he turned to his right and saw the dark eyed gypsy standing next to him and studying his face. He was wearing what appeared to be a silk bright yellow shirt, that was loose around his shoulders giving him a fragile almost slightly feminine appearance, it wasn’t helped by the fact his hair was long enough to cover his shoulders. Their arms touched and Jun felt a jolt run down his spine “Yes?” He said coldly hating the feelings that were unfairly being stirred up inside of him.
“Sorry” The gypsy said looking more amused than apologetic as he moved away just a little his eyes dancing and Jun blinked pulling his gaze away he made his excuses to the Ohno’s and quickly walked away heading straight to the church. Stepping into the stone building that seemed to be much colder than the air outside, he allowed himself to breathe a sigh of relief allowing the calm relaxing atmosphere surround him. He had been brought up by the church, and he followed the teachings to the letter he always had so he couldn’t understand the thoughts that were filled his mind, more so now. He sank to his knees in front of the altar his eyes closing as a prayer came instantly to his lips.
He ignored the flashes of the gypsy boy that filled his mind, wondering if the boy was a witch or demon sent to torment or maybe to test him. His hands were so tightly clasped together it was painful as he went through the prayer he had been taught since childhood
“Amen” He said crossing himself as he finished. He stood up and lit a candle and then straightened himself out and left the church hoping against hope that this would stop the thoughts that was in his mind. From the gypsy camp he heard the sounds of laughter and he was unable to stop himself from looking over and catching sight of the raven haired gypsy boy yet again. He face was lit with a smile as a female gypsy had started a dance, but even the enticing movements of the voluptuous woman could stop his eyes focusing on the cuter male. The boy looked up and gave a wave when he saw him looking. Jun looked back to the church asking that his interactions with them would be kept to as little as possible. But god appeared to be less then kind to him, the gypsy camp seemed to be seen from everywhere in the city and although he couldn’t see the boy he wasn’t able to stop himself from looking. He walked around the city nodding to the people that greeted him. There wasn’t many, no matter how far he dragged himself up he would always be just a bastard left on the doorsteps of the church.
Going back to the guardhouse he had to pass by the gypsy camp and he saw the younger Satoshi Ohno and the other boy sitting on the back of the yellow and blue caravan laughing happily together. Jun was shocked by the jealousy that coiled in his chest as he saw how close they were. He nodded his head to them and ran to his small bedroom. Once inside he took off his shirt and took out his cane whipping himself for the impure thoughts that had plagued him all day blaming the witch gypsy boy.

a/n: I was watching Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame with my nephews and niece and while listening to the song ‘Hellfire’ my brain came up with this nonsense I’m sorry… The story line actually get's a lot darker than the other stuff I’ve written, but if you’ve heard the song you can understand why (and it kind of fits the mood I’m in) >.< I’m trying to sort out a community for my fic’s so things will be more organised soon I promise… Thanks for bearing with me and I hope you like it ^.^
