“Two households both alike in dignity…”

“Aiba what are you talking about?” Matsumoto Jun mumbled looking up at his crazy friend he would wonder if the heat had finally gotten to him, but Aiba Masaki was well known for doing crazy things

“I’m getting ready for the play… I want to get the part of tha narrator”

“What play?” Matsu frowned looking up from his book, he hadn’t heard about a play. He had been hoping for a real play for a while.

“You’re in the drama club and you haven’t heard yet?”

“Heard what?” Matsu said weighing the book in his hand and wondering if Aiba would forgive him if he threw it at him.

“We’re doing a joint play with Kurin School” Aiba said with a look that would have fit a small child that had been told he was allowed to eat his ice cream before dinner.

“Kurin? But that’s another boys school” Matsu mumbled wondering why his friend was so excited by that. They were already in a boy’s school he would understand if it was a girls school or something. But wants to stare at yet more guys?

“Yeah… But the main actor of Kurin drama club is supposed to be really, really cute” Aiba said happily and Matsu almost dropped his book

“Wh-at? You’re… Into guys?” he spluttered his eyes wide, he had known Aiba since coming to the school but had never even suspected.

“Not really, but they say that he’s cute enough so even straight guys fall for him…”

Matsu stared at his friend, his mouth hanging open and his eyes wide “So if that’s true why are you only trying out to be the narrator? Why not a main role?”

“Because although I’m an idiot I’m not an idiot enough to go up against you… You’re bound to get the lead role, but at least I’ll be able to see him!”

“You know I doubt there’s really any guy that’s cute enough to make a straight guy fall for him” Matsu said confidently. He didn’t bother denying that he would get the main role, he was the one of the best actors in the school, and he loved to act. He wondered vaguely about this guy that seemed to be his future co-star. Wondering if he knew the rumours that were circulating around him in this school, until something dawned on him “Wait a minute… Isn’t that play Romeo and Juliet?”

“Yep…” Aiba giggled "you should make sure you get Romeo’s role… Though I would love to see Jun in a dress!”

“Never going to happen” Matsu said stiffly stuffing his book back in his bag. Matsu went straight the teacher in charge of the drama department it wasn’t that he doubted Aiba but sometimes Aiba had a way of confusing things.

“Yamoto-sensei” he said when he saw the teachers ‘ample’ frame just coming of the teachers break room.

“Ah Matsumoto-kun, I was just on my way to find you!” Yamoto said beaming happily and coming towards him. Matsu felt his heart dip a little maybe Aiba was telling the truth after all.

“You were sensei?”

“Yes! I was just given some exciting news” She said hitting his arm “I was talking to Taguchi-sensei from Turin high just the other day, she’s an old friend of mine, she runs Turin’s drama department and we decided that we should do an all boy’s version of Romeo and Juliet… Just like they used to when it was written!” She was still grinning like a mad woman but she seemed to be waiting for him to say something.

“Wh-Why that play?”

“You’re not squeamish about that sort of thing are you?” Yamoto asked nudging his arm again.

“What no…” Matsu denied quickly. “But you could have talked it over with the club”

“There wasn’t much time… We’ve already arranged for you to use the theatre in town…”

“Wh-What? But isn’t this meant to be just a school thing?”

“I guess… But we thought it would give you boys some actual experience on a real stage…”

“Bu-But who’s going to want to see an all-male version of Romeo and Juliet?” Matsu asked and Yamato let out a huge laugh that caused her whole body to shake slightly, almost like disturbed jelly.

“You’d be surprised” She said with a huge wink, “But the reason I wanted to see you is, we already sorted out the roles, based on our judgement you will be taking on the role of Romeo, and… Let me see…” She said looking through a little book from her bag, “Ah Ninomiya Kazunari from Turin will be playing your Juliet”

Romeo? Matsu was thinking well that wasn’t too bad at least he wouldn’t be in a dress. He was about to ask something stupid like is Ninomiya the guy that can make straight guys fall for him? But he stopped himself.

“We’ll be having a meeting at Turin tomorrow, just come to school normally I will take you there” Yamoto said patting his arm. “You should relax, you’re playing the part of one of the greatest lovers in one of the greatest love stories…”

“I’ve always wanted to play Romeo” Matsu admitted slowly “But I always pictured my Juliet as being a girl”

“Well, apparently, according to Taguchi-sensei, Ninomiya is meant to be as cute as any girl” Yamoto said with another laugh. “Come on let’s go and tell the rest of the club”

The rest of the club didn’t seem as uneasy as about the play as Matsu was, in fact some of them seemed to want to meet this Ninomiya as much as Aiba did. His friend had gotten his role as narrator and was now practicing his lines very loudly with a huge smile on his face.

Matsu took a deep breath wondering why he was letting this get to him, it was just a play and there there was no way that there was a guy like that he thought.

The next day he was more confident as he piled into the small beat up van with the rest of the cast and was driven the short distance to Turin high. When they arrived Yamoto bustled off to see where they were meeting leaving them to look around.

It wasn't long before a group of what looked almost like thugs walked up to them “You… You’re the guy’s from Hitachi High, ne? The one’s that’s going to be in the play?”

“Yeah” Matsu said recognising their uniforms as being from Turin. They didn’t look like the types that would be in the drama club. One of them even had a baseball bat.

“Which one of you is playing the lead?”

“Um... Me?” Matsu managed with more confidence than he felt. The guy with the baseball ball squeezed it tightly, glaring at him as if he was wishing it was his neck.

“Look, pal, just because you get to act like you’re love with him doesn’t mean that you can forget that he’s ours” The biggest guy said flexing the muscles in his arms as he jabbed at Matsu’s chest with his finger.

Matsu stared at them in disbelief “What the hell? Are you nuts? I’m straight I have no interest in guys” he said

“Yeah well… Just be sure you remember that” The spokesman said slamming his shoulder into Matsu’s as he walked away.

“What the hell?” Matsu mumbled looking at Aiba who shrugged and then started to smile

“I guess he really is as cute as they say”

“Aiba!” Matsu sighed rolling his eyes about to smack him on the head when Yamoto came and motioned for them to follow her into what must be Turin’s drama club. Inside there was another teacher who was introduced as Taguchi-sensei and some students.

Most of them seemed to be surrounding a thin, slight boy who was looking at the floor and seemed to be almost blushing.

“Who’s Matsumoto-kun?” Taguchi asked and Matsu stepped forwards, Taguchi ran her eyes over him and smiled happily, “You right, a prefect Romeo… Come on Juliet step forwards”

The small guy stepped forwards quickly “Nice to meet you… I’m Ninomiya Kazunari” He said softly holding out his hand “Let’s work well together…”

Matsu took his hand and shook it, staring at his pretty slightly red tinged cheeks and the way his dark eye lashes framed his beautiful mahogany eyes. ‘Oh crap’ he thought.
