Matsu jumped as Nino gave a shout stopping walking to point excitedly, “Master… Look” he said jumping up and down

“Nino” The captain said smiling apologetically at some other pedestrians that had to walk around them. He followed Nino’s finger and saw a group of about four half grown cats looking at them. Stray cats weren’t uncommon near the docks, but they were carefully monitored. If the numbers were too high they were ‘culled’ not that he would ever tell the Feman that.

The cats near the docks were lucky though most ships had one or two as mascots, going back to the ancient days when the cats were used to keep mice down. No it wasn’t strange to see cats, around here what was strange was the way they were looking at Nino and meowing loudly.

Nino made a low meow in his own throat, and Matsu realised that he and the cats were having what seemed to be a conversation. The captain remembered than that Nino was a kind of cat. But then humans were kind of monkey’s but they couldn’t interact even though over the years there had been a few developments in that area nothing was ever proven.

Nino continued his conversation for a few minutes, every now and then making gestures to Matsu. The workers and sailors that were walking by were giving them strange looks but Matsu smiled at them pointedly until they left. With one final meow, Nino moved away smiling slightly

“Nino? You could understand them?” Matsu asked

“A little master, but the words they use are strange like Masters… Nino doesn’t understand them well”

“Cats sound like humans?” Matsu asked surprised he had always imagined animals of having their own language so it was almost, disappointing that they sounded like humans.

“They use the same words master… But they do not call themselves c-at-s master…”

“What do they call themselves?”

“The free… Nino thinks master, but they were talking so quickly” Nino said “They didn’t understand Nino master… I smell like them but look like Master”

“What did you tell them?”

“That master saved Nino and brought Nino here with him…” Nino answered “Nino doesn’t know if they understand Nino, though”

Matsu wasn’t sure what to say he just chewed his tongue for a while and flagged for a taxi that would take them to his apartment. The taxi driver was the friendly kind it seemed, not caring that Nino was having difficulty sitting on the chair. Matsu knew it was because of the position of his tail and hoped they would be in his apartment soon so Nino could free his ears and tail.

Matsu scanned his ID card and quickly stopped Nino from copying him with his card. He linked their fingers tightly smiling down at the Feman who was looking around in amazement

“Home on shore leave captain?” The driver asked as he drove them away from the docks. Matsu nodded wanting to stroke Nino but afraid that if he did the Feman would start purring. Although so far they had been lucky, there was no telling when it would run out.

Nino nestled against his shoulder rubbing his cheek against him, “Nino is hungry master…” he said and Matsu could sense the taxi driver looking at them in the camera monitor.

“We’ll it eat soon” Matsu promised wondering if the driver thought that this was some kind of sex game or something. “What do you want to eat?”

“Hmm… Whatever master feeds Nino, is fine…” Nino said in a soft purr, which in the small taxi sounded strangely erotic. The driver gave a cough and made a show of pressing some buttons. They had tried to introduce fully automated taxis a few years ago but people had felt uncomfortable without a driver and there had been so many kinks that the government had scrapped the idea.

“Been on a long trip?” The driver asked loudly, staring out of the window.

“Not really just transport…”

“I used to be in transport myself… But then I got married and had kids, can’t be flying around the universe with a wife waiting for me…”

“Why not take her with you?” Matsu asked trying to sound interested as Nino continued to rub against him. He wasn’t purring as loudly as he normally did but the noises he was letting out were enough to stir him.

“That’s all well and good for the officers with their private rooms but I never made it on the ladder…” The driver laughed “Must be good for you though captain ne… You two serve together?”

“Yes” Matsu answered looking down at Nino who had stopped rubbing and fallen asleep against him. Matsu ran a hand down his arm being so upbeat must really take it out him the captain thought.

They were soon at his apartment, it wasn’t much of a home it was just a place to sleep before sailing out again, Matsu had always saved his credits for something else, maybe even his own ship one day. But now the only thought on his mind would be where to get a fully working cryogenics tube and have it installed without anyone realising.

Once they were clear of earth it wouldn’t matter, when it was found that Sakurai was on board he would be ordered to turn around and when he refused he would be deemed a pirate.

“Nino…” He said softly stroking the Feman’s cheek. Nino meowed, his eyes opening.

“Sorry, Master… Nino feels tried…” Nino mumbled rubbing his face so hard he almost disturbed the wig

“It’s okay, you can sleep when we get in” Matsu said stopping the wig from falling before turning back to the driver. “Thanks” he said scanning his card again “Something extra”

“Thank-you sir, enjoy your leave sir”

“We will” Matsu said helping Nino out of the taxi.

“Thank-you” Nino said with a huge smile, the driver flashed his own in return and Nino waved until he had driven away. Matsu felt nervous as he led Nino to his apartment. It really wasn’t any better than his room on the ship but the Feman was delighted more so when he saw more books. “Did master bring the one from his flying boat?”

“It’s right here” Matsu said with a laugh opening his pack and showing him the collection of Harry Potter books.

“Yay, will Master read to Nino?” Nino asked touching his stomach

“Yes… But I thought you were tired?” Matsu said taking of the wig and loosening the bind of the bandage letting Nino’s ears free.

“I was but masters home is so interesting, like his flying boat but it doesn’t make Nino’s tummy feel strange… That feels better master” Nino said purring loudly as Matsu rubbed his ears “Can Nino take his tr-ou-ser’s off too?”

“Of course you can…” Matsu answered “You should put your other ones on”

“Thank you master” Nino said almost falling over himself as he tried to pull on one pair and pull of the others. Once Nino’s tail was fully free his purrs were even louder.

“I’m glad Nino likes the house” Matsu smiled. After they had settled in and eaten, Matsu tried to arrange a meeting with the admirals about what had happened on Elzren, with one omission. But as hard as he tried he could only get one in a week two days before he was due to set sail again.

Matsu was frustrated but there was nothing he could do but wait and so their days were lazy and uneventful until the morning of the third day.

They were asleep in each other’s arms when Nino made a funny little noise and sat up right.

“Master… Nino’s tummy feels strange… It is like on your flying boat… But…” The Feman said before getting up and running into the bathroom.

“I’ll call Aiba” Matsu said darting to the phone. The doctor’s number was the only one on speed dial and immediately there was an answer

“Yes?”

“Nino’s throwing up…” Matsu said in a panicked way looking towards the bathroom where Nino was making some unpleasant sounds.

“I didn’t expect it to be so soon…” The doctor said and Matsu saw him pinching the bridge of his nose on the screen “I’ll be right over”

“Thanks” Matsu said signing of quickly and ran into the bathroom to stroke the Feman’s back.

“I’m sorry… master…” Nino moaned his head down the toilet,

“It’s okay” The captain told him not knowing what to do and just crouched and rubbed his back until Aiba came into the room carrying a small medical bag.

“Well I was going to come by today anyway…” He said “Nino I need you to relax okay?”

“Yes… Aiba Doc-ter” Nino nodded before making another retching sound. Aiba put a patch in the middle of his back and almost instantly Nino stopped throwing up.

“What was that?” Matsu asked amazed as they went back to the bedroom. Nino lay on the bed hugging Matsu’s arm tightly.

“Something that I came up with, it won’t stop him from being ill but hopefully it should stop some of the sickness”

“You know I always wondered how you became a doctor”

“Because I failed as a vet” Aiba mumbled “Nino could you lift your top up I want to run a scan on your body…”

“Will it hurt Nino?” Nino asked as he did as he was told.

“No but it will help me see how far… ” The doctor didn’t finish before taking out a small device from his bag and running it over the Feman’s stomach and chest. There was silence for a while and then Aiba gave a loud heavy sigh

“What’s wrong?” Matsu asked automatically worried while Nino tensed

“Nothing… I just… I really need to get you into a hospital”

“Well this is interesting, I suppose you must be the illegal alien…” A soft voice said and Matsu turned to see Ohno watching them, a calm smile on his face.
