Matsu watched as the 1st king knelt beside him his eyes on Nino, tears slipping slowly down his cheeks, Aiba came shortly afterwards almost collapsing into the hunters arms, Matsu held him tightly, whispering “I’m sorry, I’m sorry” over and over. Aibas grip tightened as he told him it was “Okay” while Niji came to nuzzle at his former masters cheek, whining softly. Matthew watched the scene in front of him sadly and then climbed back on his horse and left them to their grief,
Yamapi opened his eyes slowly and sat up, staring around the ruined halls, his breath catching when he saw Toma lying beside him, he realised then that he had his own body again. He gripped Toma’s still hand cringing when he felt how cold it was. The third king covered Toma’s body not even bothering to hold back his tears, ignoring the looks he was getting from both the hunters and royal guard. He had completely grown to love his host, positive that he could have done anything and Toma would have just accepted it and forgiven him. He turned away hugging his knees. His heart almost stopped when he heard a soft sigh from behind him and felt a hand touch his shoulder; with wide eyes he turned and saw Toma removing the cover from his face.
“T-Toma?” Yamapi choked, Toma gave a smile and then nearly had the wind knocked out of him as the king threw himself at him, hugging him tightly while crying onto his shoulder, Toma was surprised but managed to hug him back, over Toma’s shoulder Yamapi saw Matthew, leaning against a door frame watching them “Thank-you” he mouthed, Matthew gave a small nod of the head and then vanished. They pulled apart for a moment and Toma stared at his old friends face taking in every detail “What?”
“You’re not what I pictured” Toma admitted
“Is that a good or a bad thing?” Yamapi asked, their hands still tightly locked together, Toma just laughed “You’re no longer my host...” The king said,
“I’ll be your lover if you want” Toma grinned,
“I want” Yamapi said as he brought their mouths together in a deep loving kiss “Wow, it feels amazing to be able to kiss you...”
They didn’t stop kissing until Nino was carried into the halls followed closely by Matsu, Aiba, Ohno, Sakurai and Maru. The halls fell into silence as Ohno had Nino laid in the main hall. Yamapi quickly went to his brother’s side dragging Toma with him. Matsu looked at his old friend in surprise, and Yamapi pulled a letter out of Toma’s pocket
“Nino... He... Wanted me to give you this...” He said handing the letter to Matsu and then looking at Ohno, “He told me to tell you ‘Thank-you, you were right and I’m sorry’” Ohno nodded and then looked at Nino’s body, while Matsu ran his finger over the written ‘My Pretty Hunter’ he wanted to rip it open there and then but he didn’t he just stared at the body
“There has been so much death today” Ohno sighed looking around sadly and the bodies, dark and mortal, “Has anyone seen Kazuya?”
Maru nodded and left the halls to go to where he knew the second king would be, sure enough he found him knelt beside Akanishi
“Yuichi?” He murmured softly as Maru came to stand beside him
“The first was asking for you” He told him, Kame nodded slightly
“Nino is dead then?”
“Yes” Maru answered“
“Do you hate me for being upset about Jin?”
“No... I hate him for betraying your trust and killing you” Maru said, Kame sighed and the rested his head on Maru’s shoulder, the trickster let himself have these few minutes “I’m sorry I killed him”
“You did what you had to” Kame said as he burnt Akanishi, he watched the flames claim his former lover, tears rose up in his eyes “He wasn’t always bad...”
“I know” Maru agreed even if he didn’t want to, his heart ached as he realised that maybe Kamenashi would never accept him, but he had promised Nino that he would at least try. “We should go...”
They went back into the halls Ohno gave him a warm smile as Kame took his place as his side next to Yamapi. The hunters and royal guard were on their knees looking at the three kings, Matsu was just a little out in front, wondering why they had to deal with this now all he wanted was to go into a corner somewhere and read his letter. Ohno seemed to understand the expression on his face as he apologised gently
“But we have to do this, you are the un-ruled king, you are the true leader of the hunters, which king do you serve?”
“I am loyal to you all, but there is only one king I want to serve...” Matsu whispered, his hand going to his pendent. There was a murmur in the halls as they turned to stare at him. The kings stared with various expressions on their faces; Ohno was practically beaming at him, as Yamapi laughed softly, Kame was opening and closing his mouth like a gold fish. “Ever since I met him I was ruled by him, will always be ruled by him I will serve all of you but Nino is my ruling king...” The hunter let out a gasp of pain his hand going to his neck where his mark was and then he slipped into the blackness.
When he opened his eyes again he found himself in a large four poster bed with purple hangings, and bandage was wrapped around his neck. He saw his letter on the pillow beside him, with a groan he sat up and ripped it open,
“Pretty Hunter... My Jun, Wow I wonder if Ohno felt like this, while I’m writing this your head is resting on my stomach. The smile on your face is so cute... I wonder what you’re dreaming about... I hope it’s me. The moon is high in the sky and soon my time will be over, I’m already missing you, I wish I could make time slow down and I could stay with you a bit longer, no forever. Jun, can I ask you to do one thing more for me? Just now and then, at the end of the day think of me wherever you are, and remember that wherever you are I’m longing to be, and every night I want you to know that where ever you are I’m thinking of you, we may be far apart but the love that we shared will always be with you, My love will be shining on you, like the moon is shining on me... Wow I’m almost glad that I won’t be there when you read this... But at least once I wanted you to know how I really felt about you... My perfect pretty hunter, Jun-kun, I'm glad to have met you... I love you... your Nino xxx”
Matsu stared at the letter tears rolling down his face, “I love you too” he whispered to the empty room. He removed the bandage from his neck, looking in the mirror he saw Nino’s symbol was attached to his hunter mark. He gave a tearful smile, the first hunter to be ruled by the unholy king. There was a soft knock on the door and Aiba pushed his head around
“Sorry, I just wanted to see if you were okay” He said coming into the room, he looked at the mark on Nino’s neck and gave a watery smile of his own “There was a lot of fuss when you said you were ruled by dad, the hunters and royal guards were surprised but Ohno and Yamapi seemed to be over the moon by it”
“Why would the hunters be bothered? Nino helped more than anyone to stop the pretender...”
“There is already rumours that the whole upraising was caused by dad, Sho-chan say’s it’s because the ‘Unholy king’ sounds like a better enemy than the pretender... And at the end you did fight the unholy king...”
“But Nino didn’t hurt anyone...”
“I know... Sho-chan said that he is going to write the real story... Even if no-one believes it...” Aiba said and then sighed trying to change the subject, his heart was aching too much thinking about Nino and the look on Matsu’s face told him he was feeling the same. “Yamapi shouted at the second...”
“What about?”
“Maru” Aiba shrugged “I wasn’t really paying attention... But Maru and Kame seem closer now...”
Matsu nodded and then followed Aiba out into the main hall, whispers started when people saw him, but Matsu chose to ignore them. He looked around his gaze falling on Maru and Kame. No words were shared between them at first, Maru just gazing at the second king, as if unable to believe he was really there standing in front of him. Kame gave a small smile and then moved forwards kissing his nose lightly and then covered his lips. Maru blinked, not sure what was happening he just let Kame move his lips by himself for awhile. Kame pulled away giving and almost nervous smile, Maru touched his lips lightly with his finger
“Um... Yuichi?” The second said gently “I’m sorry I made you wait so long”
Maru continued to stare at him and then pulled him into another kiss; it was rougher this time but more loving. Matsu turned away; glad Maru had gotten his happy ending, on his right he could see the third king holding Toma’s hand so tight, Matsu had to wonder if he was ever going to let him go. He doubted if Toma would mind if he didn’t. Even Sakurai and Aiba were holding each other Matsu clutched the pendent as he left the tri temple, he hated himself for feeling jealous but in his heart he honestly believed the one who deserved a happy ending the most was Nino, and he was gone. Tears were in his eyes as he stumbled out into the pretty courtyard and was surprised to see Ohno standing staring at the sky, he looked up and realised what time of day it was. Matsu felt the weight of something in his pocket and realised he still had the pendent Nino had always worn. He took it out and studied it for a moment before making a choice, the hunter walked to the first who turned giving him a sleepy smile
“Hello Jun” He said softly, and Matsu saw the glimmer of tears in the kings’ eyes. He held out the pendent and Ohno stared at it for a moment before reaching out and taking it
“Nino... He... Always wore it...” Matsu told him, Ohno fingered the pendent, tears flowing down his cheeks, “He loved you... So much... I was so jealous...”
Ohno gave a sad chuckle “I’m jealous of you too... You were his last thought at the end... I felt it in his mind...” Matsu’s mouth fell open not knowing what to say to that Ohno smiled “But I’m glad he was loved... Though his son Masaki surprised me”
“He was a great dad” Matsu told him, and Ohno nodded
“I always thought he would be, even though he said he wasn’t paternal...”
Matsu smiled it felt strange to be talking to Nino’s former lover, but Ohno was the only one, who knew almost how he felt, he looked into the kings kind face and remembered what Nino had said ‘He was sleepy and very calming...’Matsu had to admit he was right he did find the first king very calming. He stayed for the funeral and then parted ways with Aiba and Sakurai, there were no demons left but he wanted to travel to escape the memories for awhile.
Five years later...
The kings had returned and for the last five years, the world had been at peace. Demons no longer stalked villages looking for prey and Matsumoto Jun was considered the most powerful hunter that had defeated the Unholy King. Even after such a short time the events of the battle had been confused, the story went that The Unholy King had amassed an army, there was little to no mention of Akanishi or the true events. As Sakurai had said ‘The Unholy King’ sounded better, Matsu thought, he touched the mark on his neck and then the pendent that was settled on his chest the cold metal brushing against his skin as Niji brought him into the village where it had all began. The horse had been allowed to stay after Ohno had stepped in removing its demon side. Niji could have stayed in the castle but he had chosen to follow Matsu and the hunter was glad he had. He was like a living breathing part of Nino, a little like Aiba. The monk and former witch had set up an orphanage and it was filled to the brim with over excited children, whenever he visited them they seemed happy, though Matsu knew Matsu knew Aiba missed his father as much as he did. The strangest visitor Matsu kept having in the past five years, was Matthew, he wasn’t sure how he felt about death just popping up every now and then, it wasn’t as if he said much just appearing at his side, normally when he felt low and the hunter wondered if it was Matthew way of trying to tell him he wasn’t alone. He sighed looking around the village, coming here had been Death’s idea, he had been avoiding any area he had to think about Nino the reason he had spent most of his time travelling was to escape that. But when you’re told by death to do something you found yourself agreeing. The village hadn’t changed much, except he was surprised to see the on their banners was playing cards.
“Excuse me...”
“You’re the hunter... That came here five years ago!” The kid said with a bright grin “You had the bound demon and stopped the witch”
Matsu ignored the stab of pain in his heart at the mention of Nino, “Yes”
“That demon... He saved us... When the dark army came, the cards he gave us, they came to life and protected the village... Is he still here?”
“No...” Matsu breathed thinking back to the ‘magic trick’ Nino had done that second day, he vaguely remembered the demon had given out picture cards, when he’d asked all Nino had done was shrug. The boy looked disappointed with his answer and then nodded
“They all got cast down didn’t they? When the kings came back... He was a good demon, though...”
“He was” Matsu agreed making his excuses he left before anyone could see the tears in his eyes. He led Niji to the river and stared out at it while the horse drank deeply. He gripped the pendent so tightly his knuckles went white,
“So you’re the witch hunter?” Matsu jumped his eyes flying open as he heard that, though he wasn’t positive it wasn’t just in his head. He heard the trees rustle and someone dropped to the floor, a hood covering his face. “I never realised hunters could be so pretty” the hunter rubbed his eyes, almost convinced that he was going crazy. Then he heard a laugh and felt someone take his hand “Pretty hunter, open your eyes and look at me...”
“No” Matsu said quickly, “Because when I do, you won’t be there...”
“I promise, when you open your eyes I will still be here” he promised lightly with a shaky breath Matsu forced his eyes open and found himself staring into Nino’s beautiful brown ones
“H-How?”
“Being dead is so boring” Nino laughed his eyes dancing slightly, Matsu touched Nino’s face lightly with his fingertips still not believing he was here, Nino grabbed his hand, kissing each finger before pressing his lips to his palm “I’m really here pretty hunter”
“But how? I saw you die... I k-killed you...”
Nino hugged him tightly and Matsu found himself breathing in the familiar scent of his hair “Someone decided that I wasn’t a demon any more that I am one of the kings...” Nino whispered kissing the mark on Matsu’s neck “It appears that I am now the fourth king”
“What?”
“I am the fourth king, I didn’t expect that...”
Matsu stared at him unable to believe what was happening; his mouth open and closed a few times as he tried to form a sentence Nino gave another chuckle and kissed him gently at first and then more deeply. Matsu wanted the kiss to last forever but suddenly Niji pushed his way in, wanting to see for himself if it really was Nino. Nino let out a laugh gently stroking the horses’ neck while Matsu watched. Everything was the same, and he was even wearing the pendent except now his skin wasn’t bruised or bleeding.
“This can’t be possible” He said “I’m dreaming”
“I can pinch you if you want” Nino laughed “I’m really here, this is really me...Trust me I couldn’t believe it either... But I really am the fourth king now and I’m never leaving you again...”
“The three kings decided” They both jumped when they heard Matthews voice, turning they saw death with his arms folded across his chest leaning against a tree a small smile on his face. “They each took some of their own candles and created another for Nino. Nino is indeed now the fourth king...”
“He’s really real?” Matsu asked Matthew nodded and then left them, the hunter looked at the former demon again, and Nino was grinning at him widely his eyes dancing
“I’m sorry, I left you my pretty hunter” Nino whispered and Matsu pulled him against him; letting his doubts go to accept the gift he had been given.
“Don’t leave me again” He begged against his hair
“Never” Nino promised. “Hey, pretty hunter... You know this body is technically a virgin” Nino laughed. . Matsu sighed, there were still so many unanswered questions but he decided they could wait until later for now he just wanted to enjoy the gift he had been given.
The End.

“Never” Nino promised. “Hey, pretty hunter... You know this body is technically a virgin” Nino laughed. . Matsu sighed, there were still so many unanswered questions but he decided they could wait until later for now he just wanted to enjoy the gift he had been given.
The End.
