Nino opened his eyes quickly his heart trembling when he realised that he was in his own bed. He looked around wildly hoping that Ohno really was there the bed beside him was empty, as was the ‘bedroom’ section of his rooms, getting up he threw on his rope and hurried out into the main area of his rooms. He released a silent reassured sigh when he saw that Ohno, his Ohno, was sleeping in the chair by the fire the letters he had written and never sent scattered around him and some held tightly in his arms.
The king walked forwards studying his face, trying to find any changes to the face that he could remember as well as his own. There were none that he could see, although it was already the middle of autumn, his face as still heavily tanned from working in the fields. His cheeks were a little chubby and the skin under his left eyes puffy. Faint worry creases marked his brow but other than that he was a smooth as a baby and as handsome as Nino remembered. He smiled before realising that his cheeks looked damp with tear tracks and Nino reached out to slowly wipe them away thinking that he had been remembering Kana.
“Wasup?” Ohno groaned in his sleep shifting his body weight enough to cause an avalanche of letters and the king gave a silent nervous laugh, his hand freezing as his eyes shining with love as he looked down at his farmer. He wanted to wake him but he also felt that he would need the sleep he wasn’t sure how the farmer had travelled here but he guessed that he would be tired. Nino knelt in front of him and lifted up his hand kissing the bruised chapped fingers lovingly he smiled to himself and he gently stroked his finger over the faint scars on Ohno’s hand. He loved Ohno’s hands, more so because they were rough from working the fields and tending the livestock, a nervous churn settled in his stomach as he thought that, maybe, it would be hard for him to settle in the castle, he had always worked hard and it was obvious he was an outdoorsmen. Nino became certain that if he stayed like he promised he would feel trapped within the wall of the castle. Nino had only worked the fields for a few months but when he had returned he felt restless and in the end he had started his own garden. Lifting up his hand he wrote that he missed him on the palm and almost leapt when Ohno mumbled in a thick sleepy voice
“I missed you too, Nino” the king looked back up at his face about to apologise until he saw the beautiful smile that had curved his farmers face. Ohno gripped his hand tightly, linking their fingers before releasing him. The king ran to fetch his notebook and pencil quickly writing
>I’m sorry for waking you<
“It’s okay, Nino…I should be going to town to tell my friends that I’m staying”
>Friends?< Nino questioned wondering why he felt jealous at the mention of friends.
“A tradesman by the name of Aiba Yuuki, he and his family were good to me… Even after they learnt of my scars” Ohno mumbled and Nino trembled as he remembered the network of scars that covered the farmers back scars given to him by the church for acts of a sex, with another man. Even as king he was powerless to change that law, and although Yori promised that he would be able to one day it seemed like it was never going to happen. It was only after he had pushed his bitterness away about the church that his brain picked up on the name he had been told
>Aiba Yuuki?< He wrote steadily and Ohno nodded
“His son Masaki remembers you…” the farmer told him causing Nino to freeze as he remembered the bright talkative boy that was the only person in the castle that had treated him like he was normal, his heart ached happily that he was remembered and his hand trembled a little as he wrote
>He does?<
“Yes… He said that you were cute” Ohno smiled and Nino blushed his pencil laying still on the paper and suddenly a knocking at the door pulled them both to their senses. Nino hurried to ring the little silver bell and Ohno watched in festination as a maid came in wearing a smart dark blue dress with a starched white apron around her waist. She smiled prettily at him setting a tray on the table. Ohno almost drooled as he saw the food that had been prepared and the scent of freshly baked bread wafted into his nostrils. He took a long hard sniff and then blushed as he heard female laughter, looking up he saw that Nino was also laughing silently. The farmer tried his best not to look like a love sick puppy when he saw it, but it was nearly impossible. He loved everything about his king, but that silent laughter stirred his heart more than anything.
“Mam- Maggie prepared more seeing that you have a guest” The maid said stopping her laughter with a cough and bowing politely at Nino, the king gave her a smile holding up his normal card with
>Thank-you, Mitzuki< written on it. The maid bowed with a grin and Nino quickly started writing knowing that out of all his kitchen staff Mitzuki and her mother Maggie were the two he would trust the most to give him and honest answer and he wanted to know what was being said below stairs. He was sure that Yori or at least Sakurai would have put out some story to the staff about Ohno and he wanted to know what it was so he didn’t change it accidently later. >What has Yori told you about Satoshi?< he asked motioning for her to relax.
“Not much, sire” She answered promptly “Toma and Matsumoto have told us that Mr Ohno was a friend from the country…”
>I see, nothing else?<
“No sire” Mitzuki shook her head and Nino nodded with a smile he pen moving again and the maid did look a little shocked when Ohno started reading over his shoulder.
>Satoshi is a very good friend and he will be staying with us as my personal guest, will you air out the room next to mine for him please?<
“Of course, sire,” She bowed about to leave when she remembered something “Oh… The tradesman Aiba Yuuki and his family are in the great hall your majesty, Sir Ikuta asked that they be brought here from the town…”
>Thank-you, Mitzuki< He wrote though he could have held up his card but sometimes he felt rude for using them. The maid gave a smile bowing again before leaving, the door closing with a muffled click behind her. The king turned back to the farmer smiling shyly when he saw that he was staring at his face. >You should eat before you go down…<
“Nino… Is something wrong?” Ohno asked, Nino just shook his head motioning for him to eat. Slowly Ohno did so biting into the still warm bread, his brain and stomach thanking him quickly. He watched as the King sat in the opposite chair taking a matching bread roll as there was another knock on the door. Nino rang the bell and instead of Sakurai like he had been expecting, Jun floated into the room wearing a pale purple tunic, the king also noticed that there was a strange look in his eyes and a half smile on his lips.
>Is everything okay?< Nino asked and the knight nodded sinking onto the foot stool in front of the table
“Yes, I’m fine” He answered easily holding up some of the fruit to the king “Eat it”
Ohno was surprised when Nino gave a glare but did as he was told, taking the fruit out of his fingers, Jun and Nino looked at each other and they both gave a laugh. The farmer studied their faces trying to squish the jealousy that was forming when he thought how well they looked together.
