Aiba looked up at his family’s restaurant nervously playing with his fingers, twisting them tightly as he contemplated going inside, he was terrified that he would be just as unwelcome as he had a few days ago. In his heart, he just wanted to go back to Sakurai’s apartment and curl up into a tight ball and shut out the rest of the world it would be so much easier if he did that. The only thing that forced his feet to move forwards was thinking about what had happened with Kame and his father. His own father had never beat him and Aiba had realised that as much as he pretended that he was okay deep down he needed his family. Licking his lips he strode over to the restaurant and slid open the wooden door the soft bell tingling above his head, it sounded too cheerful for how he felt and Aiba looked nervously at his brother who was setting up a table near the window,

“Welcome… Nii-chan, welcome home…” Yusuke started a smile coming into his face as Aiba came through the door. When he saw Yusuke’s smile, Aiba smiled along happily, even though Sakurai had told him that Yusuke was sorry and regretted what he had done he hadn’t really believed him. Aiba stiffened again as his father came in from the kitchen wiping his hand on a towel. An unpleasant look crossing over his face as he looked at him

“What are you doing here? I thought that I had made myself clear…”

“Dad…” Yusuke said quickly in a pleading voice stepping forward even when their dad glared at him he didn’t stop, it gave Aiba some confidence and he stepped forwards by himself clearing his throat,

“Dad… Why is me being with Sho-chan such a big deal?” he asked in a breathless voice, his heart pounding against his chest “I know he’s older than me but he really looks after me and he loves me…You knew I was gay…”

“I… He’s too old for you and is just taking advantage because you’re confused…” His father snapped an Aiba frowned feeling really confused at his father’s statement. He thought that his parents had accepted that he was gay, but judging from that it sounded that is father was still hoping that he would just ‘Get over it’

“Confused? You think I’m confused about being gay?” he managed to say in the end and his father gave an angry shrug his hands folding across his chest as he did so biting out

“You’re only a kid, you don’t know for certain what you are yet… You could figure yourself out if he wasn’t always hanging all over you…”

“Dad, I’ve already figured it out, I know you think I’m an idiot because I get words mixed up, but I’m  I know for certain that I’m gay and that I only like men, I knew that before I met Sho-chan…”

“Masaki…”

“I’m sorry that you don’t like me because I’m like this, and that you think Sho-chan is wrong for me… But you’re wrong… And I love Sho-chan…” He said with more confidence than he was actually feeling, he was positive of his love for Sakurai but he had never spoken like this too his father before and he couldn’t believe that he had done so now. “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have come…”

“So why did you?” He father spat and Aiba was willing himself not to cry he could see that his mother was watching him from the kitchen area and he gave her a painful forced smile

“Because at school the other day my friend was attacked by his father and I-I wanted to see my dad…” Aiba admitted glumly, ever since he had seen Kame all beaten and bruised he had really wanted to be able to patch things up with his family, they weren’t the best family in the world but they weren’t the worst either. His dad looked at him and Aiba could tell that he had read the paper about it. It was hard to miss with the way they were blowing it all up because of the connection to Nino and Matsu and Aiba was positive that his dad’s eyes were softening slightly.

“Masaki…” He murmured gently “I… I…”

“Oh look what’s back” a scathing voice came from the doorway and Aiba’s heart sank when he recognised it as Keita’s. He really was the last person that he could have wanted to show up right now. He looked at his dad expecting him to side with Kieta like he always did.

“You’re late, Keita… You should be getting started in the kitchen” Mr Aiba said snapped a little, which caused a collective gasp from all three boys. “Is there something wrong with your hearing?”

“I’m sorry, I should start now” Keita mumbled hurrying into the kitchen area and Aiba looked at is father, hoping and pray wondering if maybe there was a way that his father was coming around.

“Masaki, I was shocked and… I admit I was a little sickened when I heard you saying… Well when I heard you talking about your sex life with that man…” his father said softly and Aiba blushed remembering back to that day,

“I’m sorry” he whispered as he hung his head shuffling his feet, he really had gone a little over board that day because he had been so horrified about Keita was doing and how he was acting.

“This man… Masaki I… I won’t promise anything but I think that I would… If you would let me I would like to try again…”

“Dad… just be here tonight…” Mr Aiba said and Aiba nodded quickly his hair brushing against his face as he gave a wide grin

“Thank-you… Thank-you” He repeated, until his father gave a small embarrassed kind of snort and went into the kitchen muttering under his breath about ‘kids’.

“Well done big brother” Yusuke said, it was a simple statement but for Aiba it held a lot of meaning, because Yusuke almost always called him ‘sister’. Aiba beamed at him and his mother before turning on his heel and running out of the restaurant to tell Sakurai what had happened. His lover was waiting for him in the café that they had shared their first cream cakes in and Aiba threw his arms around the older man’s sloppy shoulders from behind raining kisses down onto his neck not caring that people were staring at them.

“I take it, it went well?” Sakurai grinned when Aiba finally released him.

“Yes…Dad said that he would like to meet you again… He said he wouldn’t promise anything but that he would try again… That’s good news right?” Aiba looked sheepishly at his lover who nodded quickly

“Of course it is” Sakurai answered as a waitress came to take their order. “So when does he want to meet?” Aiba played nervously with a napkin before answering

“Tonight… Is that okay? I was so happy that I didn’t think to check…”

“It’s fine… I don’t have anything on and even if I did I would rearrange it… It’s important that you have contact with your family, Ma-chan” The manager or ex manager said stroking his hand with his fingertips “I have some news too my sister wants to meet you this weekend…”

“Eh? Seriously? But… But what if she hates me?” Aiba mumbled, if Sakurai’s sister was anything like him she was going to be intelligent and pretty and he was just him.

“I don’t think there’s anybody on this planet that can hate you”

“Keita does” Aiba mumbled his cheeks flushing at the words

“Keita fancies you… So no, he doesn’t hate you…” Sakurai mumbled playing with Aiba’s thumb. “Trust me she won’t hate you...

“I will do my best” Aiba promised quickly, giving a smile thinking that he had to find a way of impressing Sakurai’s sister.

“So will I”
