Home, home for Nino was a tiny village in the mountains that nobody had ever even heard of, there were 700 families at the most and that was being generous. It was like everybody knew everybody else which was both a blessing and a curse. The good side was sometimes during the rainy season or winter they were completely cut off from any other town for weeks and all they had was each other. The bad side was, if you were in any way different the whole town knew and your life was made a living hell. The teenaged Nino that had first discovered his sexuality had been terrified by that and had fled to college the first chance he’d got and never went back until Sakurai had given him the confidence he had needed and now he would be going back alone. He sat up watching old cheesy movies with Aiba, wrapped warmly together under a blanket he allowed himself time to laugh happily before he had to square his shoulders and face what was going to happen.

Aiba went to his apartment early the next morning taking his overnight bag with him to fetch him some clean clothes while Nino booked a train ticket that would drop him in the area of the village then he would have hope he would get a signal on his phone so he could get somebody to pick him up otherwise he was going to have a three mile track through the wilderness, which was always fun.

“Hey” Aiba said as he came in with a slightly fuller overnight bag and another red one that he recognised as Sho’s

“Was he there?” He asked as Aiba put down the bags, his manager gave a nod sinking into the chair

“Yeah he was there…” He mumbled in a voice that told Nino there was something else going on.

“He was there too wasn’t he?” Nino growled and Aiba quickly shook his head

“No, he wasn’t… But Sakurai-san asked if he could come around later and… I refused to answer and then he left to answer the phone…” the manager said in a whisper looking unsure if he should be telling him any of this.

“Who was on the phone?”  Nino asked his body stiffening and Aiba looked down at the carpet for a few minutes.

“He said Sato-chan…I didn’t hear any more I just grabbed your things and got out of there… I’m sorry, Kazu”

“It’s not your fault Masaki” Nino mumbled wondering how Sakurai could answer the phone from his lover. He clicked his tongue deciding not to wait around any longer. He had two hours till his train was due he might a well spend it on buying a puzzle book from the shop at the station “I’m going to get going…”

“I’ll drop you off” Aiba said and although Nino protested Aiba insisted taking him all the way to the station and even waited with him until the train came.

The ride was uneventful, he solved more than half of the puzzles before he reached his station and the only exciting thing to happen was he bum went numb. He arrived at his stop at 11.56 am and he wished that there was a pay phone as he quickly switched on his mobile. He ignored the flood of messages that he had received from Sakurai and dialled his mum’s number praying that there was a signal. Thankfully her yodel could be heard down the line telling him to sit tight and that she would send someone. Nino sighed as he hung up and looked around the barren waste land that was fields as far as the eye could see, even the ‘station’ was just an old bench on a platform. He sat down on the bench holding his bags tightly to his chest as he watched the road waiting for a truck of a car to come. Exhaustion seeped into his bones and his eyes slowly started to close, his chin dropping to his chest.

“Yo, Nino!” A voice said and a hand was shaking his shoulder roughly “You really shouldn’t sleep here…”

“Sho?” He mumbled dully his eyes reluctant to open his whole body suddenly felt cold, slowly though he managed to pull his lids apart and he gave a loud hiss “You?! You’re the one picking me up?” He growled, his voice thick with sleep and cold as he looked up and saw the bane of his teenage life staring at him as he went to lean against the side of the communal truck that was spattered with mud spots all up the bonnet and the side. Just looking at his face he might not recognised him until he reached the overly impressive eye brows.

“Your mum asked if I would since I was headed into town anyway…” Jun smirked with a shrug picking up what Nino realised were now soaking bags and dumping them into the truck. He looked around and realised that while he had been sleeping it had started raining he looked at his watch he breath catching when he saw that it was now 2.15.

“And you couldn’t pick me up first?” he moaned slowly getting to his feet, every joint in his body was aching.

“My errand was more important” Jun shrugged and Nino rolled his eyes climbing into the truck that smelt vaguely of rotten eggs and mud. Everything here smelt of mud, and he actually like the smell the rotten eggs he could do without. Jun climbed in next to him with a small smile and Nino stared straight ahead at the rain that was continuing to pour down onto the road. “Wow… You really haven’t changed have you?”

“It’s only been ten years since graduation…” Nino snapped finally turning around and glaring at him refusing to admit that Jun had changed a lot going from geeky and awkward straight to hot. “How much am I meant to have changed? You’re still a fucking jerk so you haven’t changed either”

“… Hmm I guess that’s true…” Jun shrugged switching on the ignition and pulling away from the station “I never thought you’d come back here… Why did you?”

“It wasn’t because of you… In fact when I heard you were here I almost cancelled coming…” Nino seethed and Jun gave a laugh

“So have you changed in any other way?”

“If you’re asking ‘I’m a still a fag?’ the answer is yes… So maybe you drop me at the side of the road and drive off…”

“Maybe… Maybe I should…” Jun mumbled in agreement, but instead he continued to keep his eyes on the road that was almost vanishing under the water. There was the click of a tongue “I would hate to be in the lower villages tonight if this gets worse” Jun mumbled and Nino had to agree their village was up the mountains on slopes and the rains wash away from them into the bowl like villages at the bottom. On day soon something was going to have to happen. Throughout the rest of the drive Nino prayed for the rain to stop and when they finally pulled up outside his mum house the sun was shining.

His mum was standing on the stairs of the porch waving frantically as she bounced up and down so hard he was scared that she was going slip and break a leg.

“Kazunari!” She shouted running up to him and pulling open the door as soon as they came to a complete stop. She threw her arms around him before he could stop her and a second later kisses were being rained down on his face. “I’ve missed you…”

“I’ve missed you too” Nino said with a stab of guilt that he actually very rarely thought about her, he was always to wrapped up in his career and Sakurai.

“You should come home more often… And bring Sho-kun” She said as he got out of the truck his bags being skilfully taken off of him by Jun who was giving him a smirk as his mum mentioned Sakurai. “You’re soaking wet, you need a hot bath and some soup… Come on”

Nino found himself being dragged into a house that almost made him feel like a stranger Jun was already inside putting his bags in the hallway.

“I have to go now, Ninomiya-san, I’ll see you tonight,  it was nice seeing you again” He said and Nino couldn’t stop the distrustful expression from forming on his face. Kazuko gave a laugh waving him off before turning to Nino and shooing him into the bathroom were a steaming bath had already been prepared and a warm happy feeling of love settled into his heart as he pulled of his clothes and settled into the hot crystal clear water allowing it to wash away any pain and aches he was feeling.
