By midmorning the next day Nino wished he had never left the Ohno’s, for some reason the rumour about him and Ohno was getting worse by the second, not all were about them dating but some were close to the truth about what had happened they were painful to hear, like his parents had kicked him out because he was a hooker or that he had been living on the streets and been giving blow jobs to survive. Everybody with the exception of Aiba and Sakurai had started to avoid him, only looking at him to give whispered comments to their friends.

“Just ignore them… They don’t know what they’re talking about” Aiba mumbled glaring at everyone in the corridor, as they headed to meet Sakurai for lunch

“It seems like some of them do” Nino whispered as he just heard a muffled ‘I heard he worked on the strip’ by some guys. Aiba just put his arm around his shoulders and whispered in his ear

“Just act like you don’t give a shit… People normally buy it” Nino gave a laugh glad that at least Aiba was staying beside him. Sakurai too was supportive but after a few days of consent muttering was almost too much, but he didn’t feel completely destroyed until he was called in to see the head teacher on Wednesday. She sat on his desk and stared at him tapping her pen against the wood for a few minutes,

“Before you came into his life Ohno-sensei was happy and he was well liked, now he has to deal with rumours and speculation, he continues to deny anything and your mum has claimed that they are old friends so I have no evidence for these rumours…”

“What have I done to you?” Nino asked “You keep treating me like I’m nothing, so what have I done to you?”

“You haven’t done anything to me, but you’re ruining the life of a good teacher and the reputation of this school…”

“I’m not doing it on purpose, I didn’t take an ad out that I worked on the strip, I don’t even know how anybody found out” Nino snapped “The only people that knew are Aiba, Sakurai, Ohno-sensei and you…”

“Are you implying that I told people?” She snapped standing up her arms crossing across her chest

“Well none of the other three would” Nino said flatly trying not to back down, but right now she was looking at lot like his father used to when he was about to punish him and he couldn’t stop the fear building in his chest.  He stood his ground though and after spending more time glaring at him she sent him away quickly, Nino was almost shaking as he left the office and instead of going to his next class he went home and threw himself on the bed hugging Ohno’s pillow tightly before carrying it to the art studio. He looked through Ohno’s sketchbook letting the cute funny doodles calm him down wondering if he should just quit school and get a full time job. He took the sketchbook and the pillow into his music room and started trying to write a song based on the strange characters from the book. When he heard the front door open he had created a strange song that didn’t make any sense.

“Kazu? Are you here?” Ohno shouted and Nino heard him putting his house key in the bowl on the shoe rack and then come to knock on the door of the music room, “Kazu?”

“Yeah, come in” He said putting his guitar down, Ohno pushed the door open looking a bit puzzled when he saw the pillow and sketchpad

“Are you okay? You ditched…” He said coming to sit in front of him Nino looked at him for a while and then let out a huge sigh

“I’m not going back to school” He mumbled and started playing with the edge of the pillow, Ohno took his hand and kissed his fingertips and then the palm

“If that’s what you really want that’s fine with me, but I thought you wanted to be a teacher”

“That’s stupid how could I be a teacher? I’m just a hooker” he mumbled the dark thoughts that had been building when he was with the head teacher coming back to him. Ohno smiled kissing his hands again,

“Kazu, you’ll make a great teacher you’ll be a lot more patient and understanding than some that we have now, what’s happening at the moment will all blow over we’ll be okay” He murmured kissing his lips a few time “We’ll get through this”

“Ji-Satoshi… don’t you ever wish you had never met me…” Nino asked pressing his forehead to Ohno’s while tears slipped down his cheeks, Ohno smiled wiping the cheeks with his thumb

“Where’s my feisty little Kazu? This rumour will die down sooner than you think, we only have another year and a half”

“You don’t you’re changing schools in two weeks” Nino grumbled and Ohno smiled tilting his face up

“Trust me when I leave the rumours will die a lot…” he promised kissing him again gently and Nino sighed into it, he didn’t want much he just wanted to be able to finish school and live happily with Ohno “I couldn’t ever wish I have never met you… I love you”

“I love you too,” Nino whispered “When I’m a full teacher let’s move back to your home town”

“Seriously?” Ohno said looking at him, a delighted expression on his face

“Yeah, it’ll be nice to live close your mum and dad” Nino nodded, “It will be homely… Though I’m not living with them…”

“No, the next time we go down I’ll show you the house we’re going to live in” Ohno told him and Nino found himself being amazed at how easily he had managed to calm him down

“You already have a house picked out?”

“Yeah, I’ve wanted to live in it since I was small” Ohno admitted having the grace to look a little embarrassed by that and Nino gave a laugh “I… Mean that’s only if you like it…”

“It’s not a houseboat is it?”

“No…” Ohno said quickly rolling his eyes as if saying ‘I do have other things I like’

“And it’s not completely next to the ocean?”

“No, I promise you it’s perfect for Kazu” The teacher said “Anyway do you want to eat out tonight?”

“What?” Nino said surprised completely forgetting that they were allowed to be seen together outside of school,

“Well I don’t really feel like cooking and there’s meant to be a great restaurant down the street” Ohno said “It’s fine if you don’t want too…”

“I do!” Nino said quickly, they wouldn’t be able to act like a couple, but it was nice to do a couple-ish thing.

“Good because Jun, Mao-chan,  Aiba and Sakurai-kun will be meeting us there in about ¾ of an hour”

“Wow it feels like a triple date” Nino laughed getting up to head for the shower, Ohno grabbed him from behind, hugging him tightly

“It’s meant too” He smiled kissing his cheek. They showered together, and quickly dressed before heading to the restaurant, it was closer to the sea front than ‘just down the road’ but Nino didn’t care, the faint sea air reminding him of the Ohno’s.  Nino grinned when he saw Aiba and Sakurai leaning against the rails looking down at the beach while Matsu and Mao were standing a little away from them.

“Wow I can’t believe you live here!” Aiba said excitedly as they reached him “You’re so lucky”

“It must take a while to get to school” The ever practical Sakurai added thoughtfully and Nino rolled his eyes thinking what a perfect couple his friends made, they already seemed to be married. 

“Aiba, Sakurai I’d like you to meet Satoshi’s friends Matsumoto Jun and Matsumoto Mao”

“Wow its weird hearing you call sensei ‘Satoshi’” Aiba laughed after he had bowed politely at the Matsumoto’s who were looking slightly baffled by his hyperactivity.They headed into the restaurant asking for a table on the deck so they could look out over the ocean causing Nino to wonder out loud if his ‘husband’ wasn’t really a merman and would one day leave him to go back to his own people.  The diner itself was amazing and amazingly everybody seemed to ‘click’ Matsu stopped acting like he had a stick up his ass and started enjoying himself. Nino loved every minute of it and by the time they were leaving it felt as if all five men had known each other for most of their lives, and Nino realised that they did have some supporters.  He went back to school the next day with a renewed fighting spirit.
