   Matsu knew it was stupid, he knew that his father was just trying to manipulate him but after he had left Matsu couldn’t stop his mind from going to almost dangerous places. He knew he was a jealous lover and as a husband his attachment was made worse, he couldn’t stop himself from being overly ‘protective’ of Nino. Nino was a complete flirt he always had been, when he had first seen him at the fun fair he had had sex with that human, but Matsu knew that he was the only vampire Nino had drank from, he could still remember the surprise on Nino’s face when he had drank from him, and the almost shy expression and the tentative way the made vampire had been when he had first bitten him.

    He sighed again looking at Raiden who was laying on his play mat with his two stuffed dogs. It was true that Rosa had insisted on naming the baby Raiden and at the time he had misgivings about it but he had still allowed it. Raiden let out a cooing noise, playing with tied hair around his wrist; Matsu looked down at the hair on his own wrist and smiled telling himself yet again that he was being stupid. Nino was his and would always be his, he decided.

  Nino looked up at the building in front of him, it was the first time he had visited the lord’s house and this was the furthest thing he had expected. It looked like an ordinary family house; it was painted white with tidy garden full of roses of all different colours. As he made his way up the path to the door he was almost over whelmed by the sweet scent of the flowers, it was so familiar.

  He knocked on the door and looked around; nobody would ever suspect that this was a vampire’s house, let alone the lord of the vampires’ house. The door opened without a creak or squeak and in the doorway was the lord, standing in front of him a smile on his face.

  “Kazunari, I would say it was an unexpected surprise but you would know that I was lying” he said

“You knew I was going to come?” Nino asked in surprise looking at him.

   “I have been waiting for you since daybreak ” The lord answered with a nod , moving aside to let him in . Nino went inside and was surprised that the only scent inside was that of the lord, he hadn’t thought about it much before but he had assumed that the lord would have concubines at home. The lord let out a laugh obviously reading his mind, “They have their own house”

 “I was just wondering” Nino shrugged looking around almost nosily.  When they had been together as the lord and lady, they had lived in a large almost castle like building at the centre of a completely vampire like village. Now the lord himself was living in a suburban house, the lord closed a door quickly and guided him into a pleasant looking sitting room.

   “So how did you know that I would be coming?” Nino asked as he sat in a brown leather chair.

  “I knew you would come, because the ‘in-laws’ would have paid you a visit…”

“Two, my father in-law was waiting outside the apartment this morning” Nino explained when the Lord raised an eyebrow.

  “I see,” he sighed “So he has already decided to make his move”

“Yes, I think he is going to try and use our past relationship against us” Nino said, leaning against the back of the chair remembering the conversation earlier. “At least that’s what it felt like”

  “As long as your relationship is strong there should be very little to worry about, but getting you to doubt each other would only be half of his plan” The lord said and Nino gave a nod, about to say that his relationship was strong, but he stopped himself. His husband could be a jealous idiot sometimes and normally Nino would play on that, enjoying the reactions of his husband sexually, when he was jealous.

 “Perhaps you should calm down on that for now…”  The lord said again reading his mind. 

“But I don’t get it… Why would that be part of his plan? I can’t read him at all” He mumbled, slightly embarrassed and the lord nodded, his eyes flashing their shimmering silver, enjoying his discomfort.

  “It doesn’t surprise me that you can’t read him, he has always was a master at keeping his mind blank, but you and Matsumoto-kun, should just continue to be as you are, and remember that together you are strong” The lord said confusing Nino slightly. The lord just continued to smile and Nino knew that he wouldn’t be able to get an answer. Even when he tried to read his mind the lord was just singing a nursery rhyme in his mind.

    “One day you’ll have to let me know what you’re planning old man” Nino grumbled and the lord let out an almost musical laugh

   “And one day I will” He promised with a nod “But I am sorry, it won’t be today, for now you should reinforce your love for Matsumoto-kun as much as possible… But I am glad that you came to tell me…”

  “You thought that I would go against you?” Nino demanded quickly his eyes narrowing, sharply. The lord held his hands up quickly wanting to calm him down.

                 “No, it never crossed my mind that you or Matsumoto-kun would go against me, you might have had I not tried to make amends to you both. By reuniting you and giving you back your son I admit that I hoped you would be on my side when the time came. ” He admitted and Nino’s eyes widened as he looked at him.

   “You were trying to buy us off?” He asked softly and the lord nodded.

   “In my own way yes, though I did feel guilt for what I did to you and Matsumoto…” He answered looking distant again and when Nino caught a glimpse of his thoughts he saw the image of Rosa and Junichi’s broken bodies.  

    Nino reached out and gripped the lord’s hand, gripping it tightly, his thumb automatically running over it. The lord looked up at him with surprise

   “Kazunari… ” he whispered.

   Nino looked up at him, a smile forming over his face, he had wanted to reassure him, to tell him that they had forgiven him, but something else stirred inside him as their skin met. They stayed staring into each other’s eyes for a minute. The lord placed his hand over Nino’s and the made vampire blinked, pulling his hand away sharply as if he had been burned.  He stared down at his hand for a minute and then got quickly to his feet.

   “I think I better go” he said, turning and almost running from the house. 

Stepping out into the garden he took a deep, un-needed, breath irritated when he just received a rush of the scent of roses. They had always been his favourite flower, the beauty that was hidden by thorns. He had even named himself after the roses once. He reached out and ran fingers over the soft pink petals of one of the nearby rose bushes and then looked down at his hand again remembering what he had just done. It had only been a touch but in that moment he had glimpsed some of their intimate moments before Junichi, before things had become strained between them, when he had been completely in love with Raiden.
