Nino sighed flicking the ash from his cigarette as he looked at the arcade, completely surrounded by yob’s as normal, he thought. Though there was a time when he sported a similar look, he was embarrassed to think about it now. Slowly he touched the engraving on the front of his lighter, taking it out he laughed when he remembered the man that had given it to him a long time ago, putting it back in his pocket he looked back at the arcade.
He saw a few kids wanting to go inside but was quickly put off as were a few what looked like salary men. He didn’t care about that, the less people in the better but it did bother him when one with spikey purple hair frightened an old woman. Stubbing out his cigarette he stepped forwards and wasn’t surprised when they turned to face him and he recognised most of them as students from his school.
“Yo, sensei…” Purple hair said with an almost evil smile
“Can you move please?” He said as politely as possible. There was a time when he wouldn’t have cared but he was a teacher and if he wasn’t careful he could lose this job.
The yobs gave a sneering laugh shoving his chest, his zippo lighter fell out of his pocket and one of them picked it up.
“Wow sensei… This is cool…”
“Give it back…”
“Nah I think I’ll keep it…” He laughed flicking the lighter, disappointed that he only got a clicking sound “What it doesn’t even work, that’s shit”
Something inside Nino snapped at that and his eyes narrowed. Without even needed to apply to much force, he flicked his hand smacking it into purple guy’s face before spinning around and kicking the guy that had his lighter in the stomach.
There was a security guard standing in the doorway, who looked as if he was about to do something stupid, like try to help. Nino decided to finish as soon as soon as he could with just a few more punches and kicks the main guys were on their knees and Nino was almost breathless he grabbed the lighter and slipped it back into his pocket.
“You shouldn’t touch things that don’t belong to you” he said and then looked down at himself “Shit, now look what you made me do, I got blood on my shirt…” He moaned dramatically looking at the spot that had just splashed onto the corner of his shirt. “Maybe you should have stuck to frightening old women and kids”
“Fuck… What are you?”
“I’m a math teacher… You’d know that if you actually turned up for class…” Nino spat. The security guard was staring with open mouthed amazement. “You know I don’t give a crap what you do outside of school… You can dress up like its Halloween as much as you want but don’t threaten little old ladies again, ne?”
“And why do we just report you?” Purple hair said wiping his mouth and stumbling to his feet.
“If you like you can… But won’t that be sweet… All you lot couldn’t take on me? Just think of how your rep’ would suffer… And then I wouldn’t be a teacher anymore there would be nothing holding me back…” Nino said as he lit a cigarette and lent against the dustbin.
He knew he should be more frightened, if the actually came at him all at once they would be able to take him. But right now he was more excited than he had been in years. His whole body was trembling with it.
“What are you guys playing around at” A new voice snapped and Nino looked up unsurprised to see Matsumoto Jun and Sakurai Sho coming towards them. “You aren’t you a teacher?”
“I am…”
“And you just attacked students?” Matsu asked raising one of his eyebrows
“I defended myself…” Nino shrugged drawing on his cigarette. He really shouldn’t have reacted like that, maybe it really was time to move on again. He had been thinking about it, even if he had only just started here. He was still thinking when he realised he was being watched closely.
Matsu was looking at him as if weighing him up, but the look sent a wave of unexpected pleasure through his body. It had been a long time since he had felt anything like that.
“You’re interesting sensei” He mumbled and Nino forced himself out of his thoughts. It was just the lingering excitement from the fight he told himself and quickly flashed a smile
“Why, thank-you so much, if you really think so maybe you should attend my lessons…” he said and was surprised when Matsu smiled his beautiful dark eyes flashing
“Maybe I will…”
“Yeah, well as long as those idiots are kept in line” He muttered flicking his cigarette and marching into the arcade mumbling about “Fucking brats” before losing himself in one of the games.
He didn’t have any contact with any of the gang for the next few days. He saw them but he refused to talk to them but he had noticed that the story had spread to those that weren’t there and they were all watching him with suspicious, disbelieving eyes. Every time he saw Matsu though the tall student was watching and smirking.
Matsu was only in his first year, way too young to be messing about with an adult like him. He knew he didn’t look his age of 27, he had always been lucky in that department, but just because he didn’t look old it didn’t mean he didn’t feel it and he really had no interest in silly little boys. Or at least he kept telling himself that.
He sat on the wall by the baseball field, kicking his heels against the bricks and smoking while looking at the clouds. When he heard someone yelling by the school gate, when he looked he saw a group of students in another schools uniform there was about five of them and they all seemed to surrounding one student. It was Sakurai he stood up and was about to walk away when he saw one of the students brought Sakurai down to his knees.
He hated interfering but he liked unfair odds about as much as he did threatening old ladies.
“Oi, what do you think you’re doing?” he snapped marching forward clutching at the lighter in his pocket. The students turned to look at him and audibly gave a scoffing laugh.
“What do you want kid?”
“Kid? Oi you brat, I happen to be a teacher and you’re messing with one of my students so how about you piss off?”
“That’s our line Sensei” they leader said and it was obvious that he didn’t believe him. Nino was aware that they had attracted some attention and Nino saw that some of the other teachers were watching but none of them made any move to help.
Sakurai made a groaning noise and Nino wondered how many times he had been hit before he had reached the school. There was some ruckus behind him and he saw Matsu and the other gang members rushing forward
“Stay where you are” Nino snapped to them “Stupid punks, what’s so great about getting your asses kicked every day?”
He was speaking to both groups, but where his students knew what he was like the others just laughed. He couldn’t fight here, not in front of all the teachers that didn’t like him. He hoped that they would get the message and leave without doing anything stupid, though intelligence didn’t seem to be high up on their list of qualities.
“How about you go back to where you came from?” He asked in a soft voice his eyes narrowing sharply as Sakurai gave another pitiful groan. There was another laugh and Nino tensed his finger running over the engraving. There was one way of getting rid of them without a fight. Though for the ‘normal’ students it might raise questions and he really didn’t want to show that.
But there was no other way. He pulled his jacket of and threw it down and then without pausing he unfastened his shirt. He only pulled it off half way and their faces paled the smiles dropping quickly. On his chest above his heart was a burn mark in the shape of the kanji for ‘Wind’.
