“You would run away with me?”

“If you asked it” Nino nodded but the look he was clearly begging him not to ask. Jun wished he could give him that but he knew he was too selfish to let the whore go as easily as that.

There was no reaction to Jun being naked in Nino’s bed, when the maid did look at him, the smile was still there though Jun was positive that there was a warning glint in her eyes.

“Your imperial highness” She said dipping her head lightly before ushering Nino into the stool against the dressing table and picking up the cloth with the scented water on. She washed the long sweaty hair gently, a happy smile on her face and Jun had to wonder why she was here. “Only my jade flower and the beads…” Nino answered shyly looking down at his hands.

“I see… Then if you do not mind…” Nanami said pulling something from the sash around her waist. It looked like a simple comb, but Jun could tell that the small flowers and birds attached to it would be more than enough to make the owner of the Hummingbird weep with happiness “This was my mother’s… There were only two pieces I had from her, and I have always believed that it has brought me luck…I hope it brings you the same fortune…I sense that maybe you need it now…”

“I-I could… Not…” Nino said quickly looking terrified.

“Please, it would upset me if you refuse, Kazu-chan” Nanami told him and Jun was amazed at the motherly tone in her voice. He had always thought of the maid as a cold person, as calculating as his own mother. The maid ran a finger down Nino’s nose and tapped it still smiling. “So will you wear it?”

“… Yes, Nanami-san” Nino nodded though his eyes were wide and his face pale but Nanami looked happy and humming what sounded like a lullaby she finished Nino’s hair and started working on his face. The make-up was more subtle than the way they did it in the Hummingbird, but each layer of face powder, eyeliner and lipstick accented his natural beauty and Jun almost didn’t recognise him as being a ‘him’ when she was finished.

“Now your clothing…Your imperial highness, though it is not my place, I feel that perhaps you should also dress…”

“Y-Yes” Jun nodded and after pulling on as much clothes as possible he stood up and was about to head to the door when Nanami grabbed his hand and Jun turned feeling startled

“Jun-Ouji, please take courage and know you are not alone” She told him with a smile. “If there is anything you either of you need I am here”
