The branches cracked loudly and Jun thought that this was more than likely the end, they hadn’t even made it to Nino’s sister’s house. There was the rustling of some leaves and Jun kept his mouth attached to Nino’s sucking at his bottom lip. If they were found there would be no chance that Nino would survive, Jun could already guess his mother’s orders would be to kill him on sight and drag Jun back to the palace.

“Nothing” The voice said and the footsteps moved away from them and Jun almost cried with relief. They stayed in the ditch for a while before he was positive that the guard would have left and then slowly they continued through the forest, feeling the urgency more than ever.

“Argn…” Nino gasped and Jun stopped turning to look at him

“Kazu-kun?”

“S-sorry… My ank-le…” Nino groaned stumbling as he put weight on it. Jun caught him holding around the waist. He picked him up quickly and carried him to a low branch. He lifted the hem of Nino’s clothing hissing as he saw how swollen and bruised it was.

“How long as it been hurting?” The prince asked rubbing the foot lightly and Nino bit his lip as tears filled his eyes. “Kazu-kun…” Jun whispered looking around for something that he could use to bring down some of the swelling. He saw a stream a few feet away and kissing Nino’s cheek he ran over to it ripping the some of the fabric of his clothing he dipped it in the clear cold water before going back to him. Nino gave a gasp as Jun placed the fabric on his ankle “Sorry, Kazu-kun… But how long has it been like this?”

“Since the guards…” Nino admitted reluctantly and Jun clicked his tongue

“You should have told me… You could have seriously hurt yourself” he said wrapping the fabric around the ankle doing his best to support it.

“I did not want to slow you down…” Nino whispered looking thoroughly miserable. Jun kissed his lips lightly though he had no idea what to do now. They couldn’t move any further without hurting Nino but they couldn’t stay out here in the open for the night. Even though it was summer it still got cold here in the mountains at night and there were the guards. “I am so sorry…”

“Kazu-kun…” Jun smiled stroking away some of the mud that was on his lover’s cheek and then hugged him tightly “This is not your fault… We will find a way to get out of here and get to your sister…”

Jun took the pack and searched for some food, there wasn’t much left, as Nanami had said she only had put in enough for them to get to Kazumi’s and although his stomach was complaining he handed what was left to Nino. The former whore stared at it for a minute and then split it into half’s

“You said we will reach Kazumi soon” Nino said confidently and Jun was surprised at the confidence he had in him. He took the food, it wasn’t much but it cut of his stomach mid-growl and then figured out what to do. Nino wasn’t heavy and under normal circumstances he could easily carry him the distance they needed to go but there were, dips, dykes, over grown bushes and stuck up roots they would have to overcome. Jun took a deep breath and hoisted Nino on to his back and grabbing the nearly empty pack. “Jun-sama…” Nino gasped flailing around until Jun reached behind him and pinched at his ass.

“Please, Kazu-kun, sit still…” Jun told him as he carefully started walking again picking his way over the roots and dodging the branches. He jumped over the small stream loving the way that Nino clung to him just a little bit tighter. Progress was slower and soon even his lover’s small weight became heavy on his back. Jun refused to give up, he wasn’t sure what time it was but he suspected that it was late in the afternoon.

“Jun-sama…” Nino said against his ear ad Jun made a noise to show that he was listening “I know this might not be the right time but I want to tell you that I am in love with you…”

Jun froze almost dropping Nino to the floor in his surprise “You are in love with me?”

“Yes…” Nino nuzzled his nose against his cheek and then kissed him lightly. Jun carefully let him down, holding the bad leg up so he wouldn’t put any weight on it.

“This really is not the time… But I am glad you told me… Kazu-kun” the prince whispered with a happy smile. It wasn’t how he pictured the way Nino confessing but he had to admit it was rather cute and Nino like. “Tell me again…”

“I-I… Love you” Nino whispered hopping up and down a little and Jun laughed picking him up putting his legs around his waist and kissing him a few times. He was tired, sore and hungry but all that mattered was Nino was honestly in love with him.

“I love you too” The prince grinned and Nino blushed but was smiling shyly. The breeze rustled the trees and they both started realising that they were still out in the open and on the run. Jun put him back on his back, grinning when he felt the smaller guy’s heart beating rapidly. With the new happy feeling running through him the journey didn’t feel at all tedious and the way Nino continued to press little kisses to his cheek and neck made his legs feel lighter.

Soon the forest stated to thin out and rice paddies came into view. According to the letter Nanami had given them, Kazumi’s master owned most of the land around here. He wasn’t sure why the maid was so sure that they would help them but he guessed that she had spent a lot of time with her daughter. There was only one house in sight ad Jun kept his focus on that. He could make out two blobby figures that became slowly clearer the closer they got to the house.

There was a tall man and a pretty woman about the same height as Nino, holding a baby. Nino started to struggle in his grip and Jun let him down and they both moved slowly forwards

“Kazunari!” The pretty woman shouted handing the baby to the man at her side before running at them, throwing her arms around Nino’s neck. “We only received Mama’s message this morning or Nagase would have come to meet you…”

“Kazumi…” Nino sighed happily and Jun gave a tired smile glad that he was proven right that she would want to see him.

“Your imperial highness…” The man said coming towards them with the snuffling baby “Nagase Tomoya, your loyal servant…”

“Just Jun…” The prince said “I am sorry to bring you into this…”

“We are family ne” Nagase said as the twins broke apart and Kazumi came to take the baby.

“My baby girl” She said proudly “Rika”

“Introduce the baby before your husband” Nagase sighed putting his arm around her shoulders and Jun was surprised at the teasing nature between the two. Nino looked baffled as well but Jun noticed that tears were also in his lover’s eyes.

“Kazunari… I am sorry you both must be tired… I have prepared a room and a bath for you…” Kazumi said shifting the baby into one arm and grabbing her brother’s hand with her free one starting to pull him towards the house when she realised that he was dragging his leg. Jun moved forwards to stop Nino from falling but his own legs felt as if they were made from lead and he stumbled slightly only to be caught by Nagase. “I am sorry, Kazunari” Kazumi said trying to put her arm around him to support him but finding it impossible with the baby. After making sure Jun was still standing Nagase came forwards and scoped Nino into his arms taking to the house and motioned for the prince to follow. As they entered the house and the door closed Jun let out a long sigh knowing that at least for now they were safe.
