Previous Part PART TEN
Nino sat almost glaring at his T.V screen, he had said that it was okay for Ohno to stay but that didn’t mean that Matsu had to take a shower and leave. If he was going to be like this because of the damn cop he would happily kick Ohno out again. That day at school he had been barely able to catch his lover’s eye once, okay he wasn’t going to bend him over a desk and screw him in the classroom but he would have enjoyed seeing him smile a little.
“So what’s the real reason you came to visit?” He asked picking up his cigarettes. Sakurai was still off playing happy families with Aiba, when he had last seen the pair of them they were in a happy little bubble that he hoped would last. Sakurai was a family man through and through and in spite of having the appearance of a flake, Aiba didn’t seem the type that would let his ‘little brother’ get into any trouble.
“Having training isn’t true, I’m sorry I lied” Ohno told him and Nino nodded lighting the cigarette “But… Mum’s sick… She’s got cancer” Nino froze as he was sucking the smoke into his lungs before chocking as the smoke burnt the back of his throat and he released it without even properly taking it into his lungs “She’s in the hospital here in Tokyo”
“For treatment?”
“To die, they’ve done everything they can for her” His brother said and the teacher felt his mouth falling open, his mind going to the letters he and read or had Matsu read out to him. Not once had any of them mentioned his mother even being remotely sick.
“And you didn’t tell me this before because?” He asked stubbing out the almost un-smoked cigarette and staring into the policeman’s eyes.
“You were half asleep with your underage lover, how old is that kid nii-chan?”
“What the fuck does that have to do with you?” He snapped immediately his eyes narrowing,
“I’m a police officer and you’re a teacher…” Ohno pointed out and Nino knew that he should have had a point but the truth was Matsu knew what he was doing. This relationship wasn’t creepy, they loved each other and couldn’t help the age difference.
“He’s old enough to know what he’s doing…” Nino shrugged defensively, Matsu was the only good thing he really had in his life and he wasn’t going to let anyone ruin that for him.
“Nii-chan” Ohno muttered and then sighed running his fingers through his hair and Nino cut in quickly with
“In all of you letters you never even once mentioned that she was sick… Why?”
“We… She didn’t think you would care, after everything that happened… I think she thought that you might have thought she deserved it…” Ohno muttered seemingly reluctantly looking away from his older half-brother.
Nino nodded, he couldn’t find an answer for that the truth was he didn’t care anymore that she had dumped him and ran. In his youth he had wasted a lot of energy on hating her and now he just didn’t care anymore. He was sure that she had her reasons for leaving, he knew for a fact that she had had a better life when she had married Ohno.
“So why did you come to tell me this?”
“Because you deserve the chance to say goodbye”
“Look, Satoshi, the truth is I don’t even know the woman, she walked out on me years ago. Although I don’t care anymore it doesn’t mean I can let that go”
“Not even when you know that she’s dying?” Ohno asked and Nino shook his head
“No, in my head she’s lucky that she has you to look after her, but I can’t forgive her, it’s too late now what would the point be?” Nino asked getting up “There’s not much food in I haven’t been shopping but there’s a menu for the local take-out, they’re pretty good…”
“You’re going out?”
“Yeah, I’m going to see my princess” Nino nodded looking at himself in the mirror and fixing his hair with his fingers.
“You think now in the time to go see your toyboy? Ohno asked with a raised eyebrow
“Yeah, no is the perfect time to go see my toyboy, earlier you said that you didn’t care about us… Well, let me tell you I don’t care about your opinion either, Jun, is one of the few people in this world that hasn’t disappointed me…”
“Nii-chan… She regrets walking out on you…”
“You know, when she was tucking you into bed and telling you fairy stories did she ever mention me? Did she ever tell you about me?” Nino stared at his brother waiting for an answer but knowing what it would be, sure enough Ohno shook his head slowly. “She wanted to cut me out of her life, she must have really hated your dad when he pulled me into it again… Fuck this… I’ll be back later”
Nino stormed out of the house slamming the door loudly, he wanted to hit something or someone. He was angry at himself for letting this get to him, he wasn’t meant to care about her anymore but if that was true, he wouldn’t be this upset. He patted his pockets and remembered that he had left his cigarettes in the house with a sigh he looked around for the machine he knew was around here and started walking over to it. Half way digging money out of his pocket he thought about what had just been said. “Cancer, hmm?” he mused to himself wondering if this was going to be the thing that made him finally quit. His mum was only about 20 years older than him, only in her 50’s, there was no way he wanted to leave his princess that soon. He gave a growl and turned away from the machine leaving at an almost run.
He was slightly breathless when he reached Matsu’s and Kumi’s apartment through the door he could hear the sounds of the T.V and a few muffled laughs and very slowly he knocked on the door. It didn’t take long for Matsu to answer and Nino almost threw himself into his arms holding him tightly.
“Kazu, is everything okay?” The student asked softly as arms going around him just as tightly.
“Satoshi told me the real reason he was here” Nino mumbled breathing in the warm scent of his lover’s skin. Matsu must have just had a bath, the sweet scent of body wash was clinging to his skin and Nino couldn’t stop himself from pressing his lips and tongue to the skin wanting to see if he tasted as good as he smelt. He quickly decided that he tasted better.
“Why is he here?”
“His mum has cancer, she in a hospital near here…” Nino mumbled unable to bring himself to say ‘our mum’. She wasn’t his mum she had lost any right to be that when she had left him so many years ago, over the years when he had been talking to Ohno she could have made an effort but she never did. The whole letter asking him to ‘be a part of her new family’ wasn’t even written by her, it had been Ohno’s father that had wanted to include him. Not once did she try to see him or talk to him, why should he care that she was in a hospital bed?
“She’ll be okay, right?” Matsu asked and Nino shook his head
“She’s dying… Supposedly she doesn’t have long left” He said and he heard Matsu give a short sharp intake of breath,
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine” Nino nodded, it was the truth, the moment Matsu’s arms had wrapped around him he realised that it was the truth. “Never leave me, princess”
“I thought we had a deal? I was allowed to keep hitting you even when you were a wrinkled old man…” Matsu murmured and Nino smiled nibbling at the place he had just licked. He could think about all this again tomorrow, for now he just wanted to let his lover’s warmth fill him up and calm his confused heart.
