Previous Part:PART 8

Jun growled as he looked at the tiny collection of clothes he had pulled out of his wardrobe and drawers. Everything looked nice and presentable but he wasn’t sure what he should wear to a part at a millionaire’s when he had asked Nino the CEO had just told him ‘Anything’

You should ask Sho-chan!” Aiba said helpfully and Jun gave a snort

“Are you kidding?” he asked “How is he meant to help?”

I just thought that since he’s a reporter he would have been to some and besides you still haven’t talked to him since his wedding!

“That wasn’t that long ago…”

You didn’t even go to the reception…” Aiba continued to grumble

“His wife wanted to set me up with one of her bridesmaids” Jun moaned bitterly in reply, remembering that day clearly.

It wasn’t her fault, she didn’t know that you were gay and a big drama queen!

“Drama queen?” Jun repeated the words slowly and Aiba nodded furiously. The hair dresser shook his head wondering how he was managing to remain so depressed when his boyfriend was blatantly shipping him together with a really cute guy.

Because you’re a drama queen and a scaredy-cat! You just keep clinging on to me because you’re too afraid to let go!” Aiba was pouting again, and Jun had to admit that he was just telling him the truth. He was afraid that if he let someone else in they would end up leaving him too. “Jun you know… Nino-chan, he’s a nice guy, and he’s very understanding but if you don’t start making a move he’s going to be ‘Just a friend’ and you like him more than that, don’t you? You can’t deny it, I’m in your head…

“He’s nice...” Jun admitted in a mumble

And ‘cute’ ne? You think ‘cute’ a lot when you’re with him” Aiba said and Jun had to admit that he did. Even when he was being a complete brat Nino was cute he couldn’t help thinking that.

“Does that bother you?”

No! Nino is cute…”  Aiba said and Jun gave a laugh picking up the phone and about to call Sakurai. “Go and see him! Don’t just call…

“Fine” Jun sighed putting the phone down and grabbing his car keys and then throwing them down again as he heard Nino’s voice in his head ‘I’ve started having nightmares about the one you’re driving’ Maybe he really should get a new one. He ran down the stairs and got into the bus that had just pulled up.

Sakurai didn’t live that far away but he rarely spent much time there so although he found the correct street it took a while to find the correct house.

It’s the one with the red door!” Aiba told him and sure enough when he knocked Sakurai answered looking completely amazed to see him there. Jun gave a nervous smile

“Hey” He said quietly, “Can I come in?”

“Um… Sure…” Sakurai said showing him into a pleasant looking kitchen “Sorry I was in the middle of finishing up my article…”

“It’s okay I should have called a head… But it was a spur of the moment thing…” Jun told him and Sakurai gave a nod. Things were so awkward between them it was hard to think that they had ever been close friends. He hadn’t realised that things had gotten so bad.

“If you want a coffee there’s some just made” The reporter mumbled clicking away at his computer

“Right…” Jun said taking down a cup and pouring some not because he was thirsty but for something to do. Aiba had gone silent on him again and eventually Jun forced himself to look at his friend watching him work for a while, only hearing the sound of the clock. He wanted to say something but he didn’t know how to start

“So is everything getting okay?” Sakurai said, breaking the wall of silence and just briefly looking up at him from his computer screen.

“Yeah” The hairdresser answered slowly, taking a sip of his coffee, “You?”

“Can’t complain…” Came the answer and Jun was frustrated at the tense air around them and he let out a loud sigh before almost slamming his hand down on the table

“I’m sorry that I’ve been jerk for so long, I’ve been an idiot… But I want you back as my friend” He said after he had unsettled the cups and Sakurai’s computer. The reporter gave a sigh putting the screen on his laptop down and at last looking at him in the eye.

“Yeah, you were an idiot…” He smiled “But I haven’t stopped being your friend, your reaction was understandable…”

“No, I’ve been wallowing in the past but I want you to know that I am trying to pull myself forward, you don’t have to keep worrying about me…”

“I’ll always worry about you, Masa-kun would never forgive me if I let something happen to you…”

Jun expected Aiba to say something funny or disagree but he just stayed silent watching their interaction.

“You miss him too, ne?” He mumbled seeing a photo of Aiba on the window frame, and Sakurai looked surprised that Jun had bought up Aiba. He could understand why, he had always avoided the subject but since Nino had been getting him to talk about it, it was a lot easier.

“Yep, he was my best friend, right since we were kids… He was closer to me than my own brother…” Sakurai said slowly wondering if it was really okay to talk about it. “Until he met you I never even knew he was gay… And then bam! You were together and were like the perfect couple… He was always grinning like an idiot but when he was with you it was even bigger…”

“I miss that smile…” Jun mumbled “I can still picture it but…”

“I know… Even a photo feels flat” Sakurai agreed, holding his hand and giving it a squeeze. They gave joint sighs their eyes on the photo for a while before giving blinks and taking long breaths. “So why are you here?”

“Um…What would you wear for a party at a mansion?” Jun asked swallowing the tears that had crept into his throat

“Why would I be at the party?” Sakurai asked in surprise playing with his computer screen “Was it for work or because I suddenly got invited?”

“Because you were invited” Jun said holding the locket around his neck.

“Well since it was obviously a dream, it wouldn’t matter what I wore so I’d wear my birthday suit…” He joked and Jun rolled his eyes

“Don’t mess around… You must have been to a least one fancy party for your work”

“Surprisingly newbies don’t get to go to the big parties… But there is a chance that I might be tomorrow…”

“Oh?”

“Hmm some CEO’s birthday party… I think I have the name here…” Sakurai mumbled shifting though some papers on the table “Ninomiya Kazunari…”

Nino? It’s Nino’s birthday?” Aiba almost screamed loudly in his head

“Nino’s birthday?” Jun repeated over the noise in his head and Sakurai blinked staring up at him.

“’Nino’? Is there something I should I know?” He asked slowly and Jun gave a small smile.

“We’re sort of friends” He mumbled aware that his cheeks were flushing. Sakurai’s lower jaw was almost scrapping the floor and his eyes were sticking out of his head.

“How long?”

“About two weeks…” Jun admitted with an almost shy smile, irritated that he was blushing like a little girl.

“Seriously?” He asked his voice laced with disbelief. “Where did you meet a millionaire?”

“Outside a game store…” and he proceeded to tell him the full story of his meeting with Nino.

“No, way… What’s he like?”

“A complete brat, but deep down he’s really nice and understand… So what do I wear for his birthday party?”

I think you should go for the birthday suit idea” Aiba giggled happily and Jun almost scolded him out loud but managed to stop himself.

“A suit a guess,” Sakurai said seemingly still not believing him “From what I’ve heard there’s going to be a lot of famous people there” Sakurai mused rubbing his chin, and Jun gave a moan, the party was tomorrow where the hell was he going to get a suit from? And there was a present, he had to get him something.

See… The birthday suit! Always worked for me

“Shut up” Jun grumbled in a small voice getting to his feet, “I’d better go out and buy a suit”

“Do you want me to come?” Sakurai asked sounding almost hopeful and Jun gave a smile

“Don’t you have to finish?” he asked looking at the computer the reporter nodded but he stood up anyway grabbing some keys from a bowl on the side

“Yeah but I can do it later…” he said and guided him to the door. They spent a happy day picking out a suit and sharing memories of the times that Aiba went shopping with them. The clothes he always picked out were always weird but somehow he nearly always managed to pull it off. After he had managed to find a suit he tried to find a present but nothing seemed to fit his idea of what Nino would like and in the end he went home with just the suit.

I think he will just be happy to have you there” Aiba said as he got home and Jun gave a sigh sinking onto the sofa. “I’m happy you talked to Sho-chan properly again…

“Me too” Jun smiled resting his head against the back of the sofa.

Jun, tomorrow… Don’t take the locket… Be with Nino-chan alone, he deserves not having to share you on his birthday

“I… Okay…” Jun agreed slowly his mind filled with the smile Nino had given him that day in the salon. Aiba gave a happy laugh and Jun fell to sleep. The next afternoon Nino sent him a message that the car was coming and Jun got dressed in his new suit fixing the tie several times and teasing out his hair,

Jun-kun, looks sexy” Aiba said proudly and Jun smiled at him through the mirror “Don’t forget the locket…” Very slowly Jun removed the locket and put it on the side surprised at how empty his mind felt without Aiba being there. He was tempted to put it back on but he knew Aiba wouldn’t be pleased. Fixing his hair again Jun looked at the locket and took a deep breath before going out to the waiting car.
